Breaking News! Michigan Changes Law On Food Advice

In many states across this great nation it is illegal to give any dietary advice, to anyone, unless you are a licensed dietician or nutritionist. This means if you know a friend who shows all the signs of a wheat intolerance and you tell her so – illegal. This means if you know someone who has a child with ADHD and you tell them food coloring, MSG, high fructose corn syrup, wheat, whatever, is the cause and once you take those foods out of their diet the child will be normal – illegal.

Giving food advice in these states means you would be acting as a registered dietician or nutritionist without a license.

Last night, June 11, 2014 that changed for the state of Michigan when the MI Senate passed HB4688 to repeal the Dietetics Nutrition Licensure law with a vote of 26-12. The repeal is on it’s way to the Governors office for him to sign.

This is a major victory and a sign that our work is paying off – I am convinced it’s moms and dads who are saving the world through word of mouth and standing up for their kids. Share this post to help get out the word. Things like this are wrong and need to be stopped. It takes 17 years for new studies to become normal daily practice in medical offices and many of our dietary guidelines of the food pyramid and low fat foods are proving to be incorrect.

Click here to see the proposed House Bill which reads, “Occupations; dietitians and nutritionists; licensure of dietitians and nutritionists; repeal. Repeals sec. 16346 & pt. 183A of 1978 PA 368 (MCL 333.16346 et seq.).”

Click here for the Bill Analysis saying, “Part 183A prohibits a person from engaging in the practice of dietetics and nutrition, or providing or offering to provide dietetics and nutrition care services, unless licensed or otherwise  authorized to do so, establishes requirements for licensure, and prescribes responsibilities of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.”

This law is not federally regulated but instead lies in the hands of each state. Probably the most nororious state is North Carolina. Click here to see where the state of NC sued a man for giving dietary advice on his blog after curing himself of  diabetes with real food.

This is one case where writing your congressman proves to be effective. It’s a thrilling day!

becky head shot2*Nourishing Plot is written by a mom whose son has been delivered from the effects of autism (asperger’s syndrome), ADHD, bipolar disorder, manic depression, hypoglycemia and dyslexia through food. This is not a news article published by a paper trying to make money. This blog is put out by a mom who sees first hand the effects of nourishing food vs food-ish items. No company pays her for writing these blogs, she considers this a form of missionary work. It is her desire to scream it from the rooftops so that others don’t suffer from the damaging effect of today’s “food”.
