Drugs That Damage Instead Of Heal

“Once you understand how to leverage nutrigenomics for disease prevention you really don’t need medication,” says Kelly Brogan, MD.
“We have this field that’s overtly and covertly influenced by pharmaceutical companies in a way that surpasses, in my opinion, other fields partly because of the impressionistic nature of the diagnosis. There’s a lot of room for pharma to insinuate itself because doctors can be influenced in ways that they perhaps couldn’t when they were relying on more structured diagnoses,” says Dr. Brogan.
All sorts of factors affect mental health, according to Dr. Brogan including B12, calcium, sodium, electrolytes, brain matter deprived of good fats and parasites.
“Psychiatry is based on a highly impressionistic diagnostic system. It’s essentially, you sit in an office with a physician and you are labeled based on their subjective opinion. There are no tests, there are no essential diagnostic markers. Efforts to try and establish genetics, predisposition, brain imaging, EEGs have led us down a blind path,” Dr. Kelly says.

Oftentimes depression is caused by inflammation in the intestinal tract, the brain or both. Relieving this is not prescribing a pill, it’s stopping the inflammation. Potentially hundreds of neural chemicals can be impacted through inflammation. Dr. Kelly says, “The production of serotonin from tryptophan, this amino acid that’s a sort of precursor to serotonin. It shifts it from making serotonin and melatonin to making these essentially inflammatory compounds like quinalinic acid.” This adaptation of the body is a response to stress. The solution is manage the stress giving the body a perceived safety and a level of comfort.
Our food today affects our mental health but it doesn’t appear to be considered in the psychology office. Nutrients affect behavior immensely.
Nutrition can reverse mental illness. Fat soluble vitamins A and D, fatty acids and B vitamins all effect our mental health and methylation. Production of neurochemicals and detox can both affect hormones. Weight gain, metabolism changes, sugar consumption variations and inflammation all affect mental health as they are signs of malnutrition through foods that are not nutrient dense but instead overly processed foods.
“Countless patients of mine have had panic attacks from basic periodic consumption of refined carbs. Over time it can feel like your personality or something you’re destined to deal with the rest of your life,” says Dr. Kelly.
Interestingly Dr. Brogan says a great deal of mental issues can be traced to diet or life situations and applying Zoloft to that circumstance is a form of malpractice.
The vagus nerve goes between the gut and the brain bidirectionally. Lipopolysacharides have been injected in animals to promote a depressive state working with interferon to control depression. Continually, germ free mice have a completely different countenance than those with compromised gut bacteria.
If you are looking for a psychiatrist it is important to find one who will test your fecal matter to determine what negative microbes could be causing mental stress, depression and other disorders.
Dr. Brogan expresses her opinion that, “The literature supporting the benefits of statins in women of any age is totally inadequate. To the point that I perceive it to be all risk with no benefit.” She gives her reasoning as, “When we interfere with cholesterol we interfere with cell membrane physiology. We’re interfering with hormone production, all of your hormones are made from this life-giving substance. We’re interfering with bile acid production, we’re interfering with vitamin D production. Disturbing with something so vital is really disturbing.”
Ingesting stomach acid production medicines when producing excess stomach acid is a sign of food intolerance does not remove the offending source it puts a bandage on a broken faucet.
Eliminating foods in the diet like sugar and GMO foods and gluten are the first and foremost step to mental health Dr. Brogan says.
In an article entitled “Move Over Prozac: How Turmeric Helps With Depression” Dr. Brogan says, “This wonder-spice is also a mainstay of my anti-inflammatory work with patients in my practice where I use liposomal preparations of curcumin, the natural phenols responsible for turmeric’s yellow color, when I suspect their symptoms stem from a challenged immune system.”
Nutrient dense foods are the ultimate goal. Food, in its purest form will aid and nourish a struggling immune system.

*Nourishing Plot is written by a mom whose son has been delivered from the effects of autism (Asperger’s syndrome), ADHD, bipolar disorder/manic depression, hypoglycemia and dyslexia through food. This is not a news article published by a paper trying to make money. This blog is put out by a mom who sees first hand the effects of nourishing food vs food-ish items. No company pays her for writing these blogs, she considers this a form of missionary work. It is her desire to scream it from the rooftops so that others don’t suffer from the damaging effect of today’s “food”.
