Homemade Toothpaste – GAPS Approved
Homemade toothpaste takes less time to make than it would take to get your car keys and get out of your driveway. The clean feeling you get from homemade toothpaste is incomparable. Even those who switch back to store bought toothpaste come back to homemade toothpaste because the clean feeling is immeasurable.

To make homemade toothpaste, bring 3 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil to a liquid state by warming it slightly. Measuring isn’t necessary for this recipe.
Add a few drops of peppermint essential oil or clove essential oil. Stir it into the coconut oil. Add scoops of baking soda and stir until it’s the consistency of peanut butter or just softer than peanut butter. Bentonite clay can also be used, however, most folks prefer the clean puffed feeling after baking soda in coconut oil.
The toothpaste mixture will firm up, but is ready to use. It stores easily on the bathroom shelf and can be scooped out with a wooden Popsicle stick or with a spoon. Due to the high oil content of this toothpaste, it’s best to spit down the toilet so it doesn’t clog the sink.
