Native Americans, Traditionally Disease Immune, Now Show Decline In Health, The Source Revealed

“The Native American population used to be considered immune from diabetes and cancers but over the last decades that they adopt western cultures they have higher incidences than anybody else,” says Liz Lipski, PhD in clinical nutrition and author 4 books on digestion including Digestive Wellness, Digestive Connection, Digestive Wellness for Children and Leaky Gut Syndrome.
People are seeing the power of food. Switching to real food diets is healing sicknesses, migraines are going away, foggy brain is fading and other ailments are disappearing. “150 years ago all food was local and organic. We’ve undone all that,” she says.

“Existing research suggests that (American Indian) youths and adults suffer a disproportionate burden of mental health problems and disorders, ” says The American Psychiatric Association.
The American Journal of Public Health did a study using 489 American Indian women, analyzing their mental health status. They said, “Our research, which to our knowledge is the first prevalence study of AIAN women to have used a structured psychiatric diagnostic instrument at a primary care site, documents the magnitude of mental illness among AIAN women.”
They found, “Sixty-five percent of the 243 women (showed) low GHQ scores.”

Mental Health America says, “The prevalence rate for suicide among Native Americans is 1.5 times the national rate. Males aged 15-24 account for two-thirds of all Native American suicides.”
The National Alliance Of Mental Illness reports, ” A study of Eskimo children in Nome, Alaska, found previous suicide attempts to be one of the most common problems for those seeking mental health care.”
“Phytonutrients have really strong anti-inflammatory effects so they turn on and off gene signaling,” says Lipski. “Stop thinking about food as the sum of individual nutrients but think about it for the sum of information that it’s going to give you in your body and how it’s going to talk to your gut microbiome, for how it’s going to turn on and off genes.”
The epigenome is on top of all your genes. Lipski says the skin has lung cells that are turned off, “We turn on and off our genes, with thoughts, with exercise, with sleep and by eating food that the body recognizes. Eating these man-made molecules turn on inflammatory genes and turn off the anti-inflammatory genes. Food is information.”

Lipski says if you are planning on getting pregnant it’s wise to do a detox first to cleanse your system so the genes can be turned on better for nourishing a baby.
“Somewhere between 10-20% of our teens and adolescents are on medications for depression or ADD. Our children are the first generation that are not going to live as long as their parents,” Lipski says. “When we clean up the diets we can have healthier kids.”
Difficulty in getting pregnant, ADD, autism and depression Lipski says can all be addressed and corrected through food.
She adds, “If men stop drinking when their mates are trying to conceive, their babies have higher birth weight and IQs. It’s not just about what the women do. Half of the genes come from the men, too.”
Dr. Michael Burger is a doctor who specializes in autism. He reported 500 families were trying to conceive using preconception planning and changed the statistics. Not one family has given birth to a second child with autism or asthma.
“Babe’s immune system is mostly in the digestive system. A lot is on our skin as well. The gut microbiome is determined by what the mom eats,” Lipski says. She adds bottle fed babies take four months to catch up to those breast-fed.
Our microbiome affects the metabolism. Some patients are losing weight just by adding a probiotic.

“What we do know about these toddlers too is when we give them antibiotics for as little as a week it can disrupt their microbiome for the rest of their life,” Dr. Lipski says.

*Nourishing Plot is written by Becky Plotner, ND, traditional naturopath, GAPS who sees clients in Rossville, Georgia. Since her son was delivered from the effects of autism (Asperger’s syndrome), ADHD, bipolar disorder/manic depression, hypoglycemia and dyslexia through food she continued her education specializing in Leaky Gut and parasitology through Duke University, finishing with distinction. This is not a news article published by a paper trying to make money. This blog is put out by a mom who sees first hand the effects of nourishing food vs food-ish items. No company pays her for writing these blogs, she considers this a form of missionary work. It is her desire to scream it from the rooftops so that others don’t suffer from the damaging effect of today’s “food”.
