Heavy Metal Toxicity Stored in the Brain

Many people suffering from allergies, ADHD, autism and bipolar disorder are seeing results through detoxing from heavy metal poisoning. Hair analysis and blood work are common for checking heavy metal poisoning, toxic elements and food allergies while a finger prick can show lead poisoning.

Many of these challenges are correlated and connected. Doris Rapp, M.D., in her book Is This Your Child, links allergies to hyperactivity, behavior issues and learning disabilities together. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. M.D., MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (nutrition), in her book Gut and Psychology Syndrome Natural Treatment for Dyspraxia, Autism, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D, Depression and Schizophrenia links these diseases to gut dysbiosis. Dr. Kenneth Bock, M.D., in his book Healing the New Childhood Epidemics shows the connection of these diseases and what causes them. The consensus in the medical community is growing but it is my opinion the people making the largest impact is the moms of these children.

Normal levels of lead poisoning fall between one to nine micrograms per deciliter (mcg/dl).  One mother had her son tested with a result of 4 mcg/dl and said, “I told my own doctor about the results, and he suggested that I give 2,000 milligrams of Vitamin C a day to help remove the lead from his system.” (Merlin, 2006 p 57)

Conventional methods of detoxifying heavy metal poisoning include Dimercapto Succinic Acid (DMSA) to treat lead, arsenic and mercury and Alfa-Lipoic Acid. Edetate calcium disodium is given intravenously in extreme cases but has links to renal failure. Penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen) treats arsenic. The challenge with these drugs is they are drugs. Drugs have side affects.

Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, says, “A number of autistic children are reported to improve while taking chelation drugs, but they regress back to their previous state as soon as chelation stops.” (GAPS, 2010 p302) The cause of this is still unknown but the suspected reason is these children pick up metals from their environment and do not release them as their bodies should. Dr. Natasha says the success of chelation, “Is still unknown.” (ibid)

Dr. Natasha says patients that suffer from autism, bipolar, depression and schizophrenia have deficiencies in the ability to detoxify. Their bodies are on overload and, “Store various toxic substances in different tissue in the body in order to deal with them later.” One key area for storage is in the fat cells throughout the body. The brain is largely made up of fat which also holds onto heavy metal. She says, “A human brain and the rest of the nervous system have a very high proportion of fats in their tissues and become storage sites for these toxins.” Dr. Natasha describes these patients as, “Very toxic people,” since their toxicity burden is so high (GAPS p 300).

Dr. Bock M.D., emphasizes the importance of energizing the brain through carnitine, Co Q 10, “Supplementation with DMAE to improve his mental energy, focus and attention.” (Bock, 2007 p 148).

Chelation can be done without the use of drugs.

High doses of Vitamin C, spirulina and chlorella are all known chelators. Elizabeth Walling, writer for “Natural News” says, “The  answer to natural heavy metal detoxification is as simple as a single-celled organism. Spirulina and Chlorella are two separate micro-algae organisms which have existed on earth since the dawn of time. Both were revered as powerful superfoods in many traditional societies.” She goes on to say, “Chlorella is particularly adept at binding to toxic metals.”

[amazon-element asin=”B00024D86C” fields=”lg-image” ]  [amazon-element asin=”B00068JLQU” fields=”lg-image” ] Chlorophyll is predominant in both chlorella and spirulina which is credited with heavy metal detoxification.

Cell wall structure of Chlorella has been under aggressive research lately leaving many people in a state of confusion, including myself. In our efforts to chelate we made the switch to Broken Cell Wall Clorella until further information is available.

[amazon-element asin=”B00025H2PY” fields=”lg-image” ]Many people insist on taking Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (FGDE) while taking Chlorella, Spirulina and Vitamin C. FGDE, a fossil shell flour, made from a microscopic sea algae called Diatoms. It is known as the grass from the sea. Doctor’s Relief Natural Products says, “Silica is the second most abundant element on earth. It is essential to all living matter. Humans have a critical need for this vital mineral.” It is considered a mineral and one of the only

natural ways to detoxify bacteria, parasites and other heavy metals. One side affect of FGDEis constipation. Conversely one side affect of high dose Vitamin C is diarrhea. Many people balance out the side affect of constipation with the side affect of diarrhea and have no issues.
