The Husband’s Shopping Guide For His Foodie Wife
The Excaliber dehydrator is the king of all dehydrators. This is our most used appliance in the house used for making perfect yogurt with no mistakes ever, mixed vegetable chips, kale chips, meringue cookies, bacon jerky and so much more. Many foodie friends have less expensive dehydrators but they burn up easily and last on average one to two years, depending on use. The trays are smaller and less versatile and it’s trickier to do things without the ample space and tray choice heights.
Dehydrators come with timers if you so choose. Having a model with a timer is not necessary in my opinion and has a learning curve much like switching from a gas stove to electric. It’s easy to forget things are in the dehydrator if the fan is not running. This is by far my top choice for kitchen appliances.

High power mixers are more popular than ever and can do countless things in the kitchen. Personally I use this appliance at least five times a week, usually multiple times a day. The most common uses are in making Homemade Lara Bars, Pumpkin Spice Latte, grinding flours and quickly making sauerkraut – seriously this bad boy will chop two large heads of cabbage in five minutes flat! This is a time-saver beyond comparison.
Many foodies prefer the Vitamix over Ninja or other competitors because it grinds food smoother (hummus, fudge, Lara Bars) and it lasts longer.
Since going grain free there is nothing we adore more then veggie noodles made by a mandoline or spirally from this slicer. Low cost, high nutrient zucchini is our favorite as spaghetti noodles. With this appliance there is little waste and countless options from spiral fries to spaghetti noodles. This is the type of appliance that once you start using it you won’t be able to stop until you’ve used it to death!
A good crock pot is a foodie’s right-hand-man in the kitchen! A pot like this one makes food traveling a joy with the clamp down lid and extra pot capacity. Meals like hot chili can be made in the morning and be ready for dinner. With a transportable pot like this one the options for pot-luck dinners are endless.
This metal filter costs the same as two paper filter purchases and opens up the world of brewing loose leaf tea in the coffee pot. Oils and teas have specific nutritive oils that get absorbed by the paper filter robbing your body of essential nutrition. Paper filters have been bleached for uniformity but that bleach is said to leach into your drinks – a foodie nightmare! This metal filter solves these challenges and is easy to reuse for years upon years.
Foodies don’t get many sweet treats that are healthy allowing us to indulge without guilt. (Chocolate does contain sugar which is not an approved ingredient for those on GAPS). By law chocolate needs to only contain 11% chocolate in order to be labeled as chocolate, the rest is filler. This bar is not just high quantity chocolate it’s cocao, not cocoa powder which is the refined version of cocao. Finally a source to order chocolate without guilt!
Wives, share this post with your husband if he needs a little help shopping for his lovely, one and only adoring wife who slaves endlessly for his nourishment and enjoyment.
