“When you’re in chronic inflammation you’re in chronic toxin retention,” says Christopher Shade, PhD of Quicksilver Scientific, LLC. in his presentation “The Human Detoxification System” aired by the Silicon Valley Health Institute.

Shade received his PhD in mercury.

Shade says when a person gets a pronounced Herxheimer Effect or die off it’s because the detoxification system is broken.

The body has two main ways to detox, cellular detoxification and drainage. Cellular detoxification is where toxins are taken from the cell and delivered on the exit train, the lymph system and the blood. Drainage comes from the blood and lymph through the kidney, liver, intestinal tract and skin.

Shade says detoxification and inflammation are sort of a teeter totter. When one is up the other is down and vice versa. He says, “Detoxification is part of your antioxidant system. Inflammation is part of a predominantly pro-oxidant system. Inflammation is where something comes in, eats you, and you respond to kill it with pro-oxidants: you’re making bleach, you’re making peroxide, you’re making peroxyl radicals. When you’re doing that you’re turning down detoxification.”(9:57).

This is why when there is a chronic situation involving inflammation toxin overload develops, they can’t get out, their exit door is blocked.

“Glutathione isn’t there just to move mercury out of your system. Or cadmium or other toxins. It’s a big regulator. Glutathione controls Th1, Th2 responses to your immune system. When the glutathione goes down you start hosting viruses. You’ve got herpes 1, 2, 3 just sort of wandering through your system, you begin rejecting a lot of food, becoming intolerant,” Shade says.

When the system begins to break down it holds onto the garbage. As this garbage builds up it stresses the body further. The liver becomes overloaded in the process. The further the situation develops, as the liver is overloaded, the lungs become burdened.

Repairing the breakdown is the only effective long term solution.

Shade says, “For the transport proteins to work, to actively transport nutrients in and actively transport toxins out, they need fluidity of the membrane. There can’t be damage to the membrane,” Shade says.

This membrane is what connects all the processes in the tract.

“An adequate supply of essential phospholipids is going to allow fluidity of the membrane because all those transport proteins actually allow the movement in and out. They need that fluidity. You can’t have oxidatively damaged proteins, you need to be rebuilding them all the time,” he says. “Incidentally the best way to get the highest source of phosphatidyl choline is raw egg yolks.”(24:20).

Phosphatidyl choline assists in proper liver function, maintains mental sharpness including age related decline and promotes healthy skin elasticity.

Hepatobiliary Surgery and Nutrition says, “The intestinal microbiota produces TMA (trimethylamine) from dietary quaternary amines, like choline and L-carnitine, as well as from phosphatidylcholine.”

They go on to say, “Species of Bacteroidetes (particularly B. thetaiotaomicronand B. fragilis) may be involved in TMA formation, since they exhibit phospholipases hydrolysing dietary phosphatidylcholine to choline. Moreover, it is reported that bacteria from the class of Erysipelotrichia (phylum Firmicutes) can produce TMA from choline. These evidences may be of great interest if we consider that Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes are the two main bacterial phyla among intestinal flora.” (page 4).

Yolks should be eaten from pastured chickens who eat bugs, worms and grass. As these chickens are outside they soak up the sunshine creating yolk rich in vitamin A and D. These nutrients are essential to repair.

In her GAPS book Dr. McBride says, “Leaky gut and malabsorption are the typical results of vitamin A deficiency.” (Page 279).

The article says that when your body fights inflammation, it “produces bleach, peroxide…” Can you explain more about this phenomenon? I’ve been working with a naturopath to try to discover the source of a peroxide smell in my urine. (It smells like nail polish). Perhaps a sign of inflammation?

My three kids and I have all tested allergic to eggs. When we tried gaps for a year, every time we attempted to add them back in, the kids ADHD and my asthma and eczema would flare dramatically. My youngest and I even get bad stomachaches from them. How else can we heal? Is there anything else we can sub? We would so love to get rid of this allergy!

Optimal stock cooking time is 1.5 hours. Are you cooking longer and cooking out imortant amino acids? If you are cooking correctly, have you tried duck or pheasant eggs? I have heard about doing that but haven’t needed to try them luckily!
